Go-Round cries blue murder in Nnewi. Abandons game against Gabros
Go-Round FC of Omoku, Rivers State, yes- terday abandoned its National League match against Gabros International FC of Nnewi after 65 minutes of play, following what its Team Manager, Soni Uboh, described as the height of biased officiating.
Uboh, who branded the centre referee, T. Wilfred from Delta State, as a killjoy, said he could not persuade his players to continue with the match after it was clear that the referee was out to ruin his side.
According to him, the visiting team sensed trouble before the kick-off of the match when the home side brought out non-approved NNL-branded balls for the encounter.
“This is the worst officiating I have witnessed in the Nigerian domestic League in a very long time,” Uboh narrated in a distress telephone call yesterday, moments after his team abandoned the match.
“We sensed trouble early when unofficial match balls were brought by the home team, Gabros, for the game

which we protested since the NNL made it clear before the start of the season that only NNL-branded balls shall be used for its league matches,” he went on.
“The kick-off was delayed for over 15 minutes, while the argument over the match balls lasted. By the time the match started, the centre referee could not hide his bias for the home side as every call was against us.
“First, he awarded a fake penalty to Gabros and went ahead to allow two goals scored from clear off-side posi- tions by the home side. At this point, it was obvious that the referee was out to ruin our season and having lost confidence in the manner he was handling the match, we had no alternative than to discontinue with the match.
“We have informed the NNL office in Abuja about the referee’s disgraceful handling of the match and we intend to follow it up officially,” the Team Manager hinted.
