Director of Defence Information, Ma­jor General Chris Olukolade, has described the battle to end Boko Haram insurgency as an abnormal war.

This is just as he said some international interests were desperate to portray Nigeria as a failed state, show the world that democratic governance is not good for the country, ridi­cule the Nigerian armed forces and make them seem incapa­ble of safeguarding the sover­eignty of the Nigerian state.

Olukolade spoke in Atlan­ta Georgia, USA during the conferment of the award of Distinguished Military Infor­mation Expert on him by the Alfred Daniel King Founda­tion, saying different interna­tional interests were desperate to pronounce the nation dead.

He said: “It is important for critics to realise that the war against the terrorists is not conventional but purely a guerilla warfare, where terror­ists fight sporadically and melt back into the social system.”

He appealed to the interna­tional community to be more objective in passing comments on Nigeria’s current security situation.

The military chief criticised “the hard stance of some West­ern countries over perceived negative human rights record of the Nigerian” military, say­ing it was ill informed and based on the wrong mindset.

Reminding the internation­al community that Nigeria had survived a civil war, social and political unrests and several religious upheavals in the last 100 years of its existence as a nation, Olukolade said Nige­rians could only look forward with a sense of pride to the next 100 years with renewed hope, vigour and certainty that the current travails would her­ald even greater prospects for the nation and its people.
