Osun poll ‘ll determine Nigeria’s survival –AdelekeFirst civilian governor of Osun State, Senator Isiaka Adeleke, has said that the way the coming August 9 governorship election is handled will determine the fate of the country.
Adeleke, who is now a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), told Sunday Sun at his Ede country home that denying the people a level playing ground could lead to breaking down of law and order, reminiscence of electoral injustice that led to the infamous ‘wet e’ in the southwest and the eventual collapse of the First Republic.
The former governor warned the leaders against taking any step that could escalate the current level of insecurity in the country, fearing a situation when “we would wake up one day and Nigeria would no longer be in existence due to actions or inaction of some people.”
His words: “There is insurgency in the North-east, herdsmen problem in the North-central, kidnapping and youth agitation in the South-east and South-south. The circle must not be completed by creating anarchy in the South-west if we don’t want our democracy to be scuttled.”
He, therefore, called on President Goodluck Jonathan to call his members in the PDP to order, saying, “If this democracy is scuttled, Nigeria will hold him responsible.”
