The Aba Amalgam­ated Traders Asso­ciation, the umbrel­la body of different market unions operating in Aba and environs, has adopted Dr. Alex Otti, a governorship aspirant on the platform of All Pro­gressives Grand Alliance (APGA), as its preferred candidate for the forth­coming gubernatorial election in Abia State.

The traders, during a soli­darity visit to Dr. Otti in his country home in Umuru, Nvosi community in Isiala Ngwa South Local Govern­ment Area of the state, ex­plained that their decision to back the APGA aspirant was informed by their conviction that he had the capacity to sal­vage Abia from ruins.

The leader of the delega­tion, Mr. Innocent Nwachuk­wu, lamented that traders in the state had suffered many years of neglect and alienation in the hands of successive ad­ministrations.

“We have sought for a man who will deliver us from the doldrums and lead us into wealth creation for the de­velopment of the state. Due to your humble background, we are convinced that you are the man, who will appre­ciate the level of suffering of the masses when you become governor,’’ he said

Nwachukwu said bad road networks were part of chal­lenges confronting the people in Aba, saying existing and potential customers had been scared off from patronising the traders.

He said they were in the as­pirant’s house to convey their collective resolve to work with him to ensure his suc­cess at the polls because they believed in him and also knew his antecedents as it related to management of people and resources.

In his remarks, Otti assured the traders of his commit­ment to transform the road networks in Enyimba city to alleviate the suffering of the masses of Abia and reinvigo­rate their hope for a better life when he assumed the reins of power next year.

Meanwhile, the Abia Po­litical Vanguard, a pressure group based in Umuahia, has raised the alarm over alleged move by the state government through the instrumentality of the council of traditional rul­ers to dethrone some royal fathers, purported to have de­clined support for the govern­ment’s anointed candidate in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state.

The group said in a state­ment signed by Godson Umahi and Uche Orjiakor, President and Secretary re­spectively, that already, the chairman of the council (name withheld) in collabora­tion with his executive coun­cil members, had set up a 10-man panel to compile the list of traditional rulers con­sidered to be supporting other governorship aspirants with a view to withdrawing their staff of office.
