Two members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Kehinde Boluwade and Sehinde Ogunrinde, Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Chief Jide Awe and former coordinator of Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), Prince Adeniyi Adedipe and others, may soon be declared wanted by the police. The state government has asked the police to re-arrest and prosecute them for alleged crimes.
In a letter from the Director of Public Prosecution, Ministry of Justice, dated October 24, 2014 and addressed to the state Police Commissioner, Mr. Taiwo Lakanu, titled: “Request for re-arrest and prosecution of suspects discharged through nolle prosequi by the immediate past administration in the state. The letter was signed by the Director, Mr. A O Familoni, and requested the police to re-open the cases involved by each of the suspects.
The former state Attorney-General, Mr Wale Fapohunda, had, pursuant to powers vested by Section 211 (1) © of the 1999 Constitution entered nolle prosequi (or notice of discontinuance) to most of the criminally-related cases involving members of the APC.
According to the charge paper, HCE-1C-2013, in the case of State Vs Hon. Boluwaji Kehinde and others, it was a case of conspiracy to kill, attempted murder and murder at Emure-Ekiti on November 3, 2013 where a break-away faction of the APC called Bibire Coalition gathered in the evening on that day at Isale Odo, Emure to meet where armed men invaded the venue and shot at those present.
In the process, gunshots hit one Foluso Ogundare and died. The lawmakers were arrested as some of the suspects, while Ogunrinde was picked up for the case of arson and assault at Isinbode-Ekiti, following the governorship election in August this year, was subsequently arrested, charged to court, but was equally discharged based on the notice of discontinuance enterred by the former Attorney-General.
In the case of Awe, it has to do with the case of alleged malicious damage to properties, conspiracy to kill and attempted murder and murder which occurred at Erinjiyan Ekiti on March 30, 2013 when armed men invaded the residences of Chief Boluwaji Adewumi and Gabriel Ojo. The gang fired gunshots which resulted in the death of one Ayodeji Jeje and Madam Juliana Adewumi.
The attack, according to the petition, was allegedly in a bid to stop the defection of one Segun Adewumi of defunct Action Congress of Nigerian (ACN) to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which was to take place the following day, March 31, 2013.
Others to be arrested include Faboro John Ojo, Aniramu Bashiru, FAlayi Busuyi, Owonifari Sefiu, Babalola Olomio, Olawumi Victor Fagboriola.
