Senate Leader, Victor Ndoma- Egba, has decided against any par­ticipation in the resched­uled ward congresses by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State, scheduled for today.

The party’s National Pub­licity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, at the weekend, noted that the National Working Committee (NWC) ordered new ward congresses in Cross River, Oyo and Lagos states.

But Senator Ndoma-Egba in a personally signed state­ment entitled: Rescheduled ward congresses in Cross River State, issued in Abuja yesterday, distanced himself from the exercise, saying since the matter was pending in a Federal High Court and in a Cross River Court, he would await the outcome of the cases.

His words: “I will not be participating in the resched­uled ward congresses for Cross River State by the PDP, scheduled to hold on Monday (today), November 24, 2014.

“I know as a fact that, the issue of the November 1, 2014 ward congresses in Cross River State is sub-judice, as it is the subject of pending litigations before a Federal High Court in Abuja and the Cross River State High Court. I also know that the court had, before the congresses were rescheduled to November 24, issued hearing notices to the parties to the suit that judge­ment will be delivered on No­vember 24, 2014.

“I am a lawyer of 36 years standing, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), leader of the Senate of the Federal Repub­lic of Nigeria, the country’s highest law-making body. I, therefore, will not do anything to undermine the sanctity of our judicial process and the judiciary. Our institutions are far more important than my personal ambition. Indeed, any person’s ambition for that matter.”
