Man United first-team players get involved in Ten Hag and Sancho's rift
The rift between Erik Ten Hag and Jadon Sancho might not seem to be ending anytime soon after both parties were involved in a situation after the game against Arsenal.
Earlier in September 2023, Erik Ten Hag accused the midfielder of not giving his best in training which was the reason why he was dropped against Arsenal. He responded when asked in a post-match press conference why Jadon Sancho was not available against the Gunners.
"Jadon was [absent] on his performance on the training.
We didn't select him. You have to reach a level every day at Manchester United and we can make choices on the frontline, so for this game, he was not selected."
The midfielder responded a few minutes later via his official X account which was formerly known as Twitter. He debunked everything that the Dutchman said about him, however, the post has been deleted.
"Please don't believe everything you read! I will not allow people saying things that is completely untrue, I have conducted myself in training very well this week. I believe there are other reasons for this matter that I won't go into, I've been a scapegoat for a long time which isn't fair. All I want to do is play football with a smile on my face and contribute to the team. I respect all decisions that are made by the coaching staff, I play with fantastic players and I am grateful to do so, which I know every week is a challenge. I will continue to fight for this badge no matter what!”
The board at the club decided to suspend Sancho from the first team pending when things settle between both parties. According to some reports, he has been asked to apologise to Ten Hag but he has refused.
Some of the first-team players has also told him to apologise but he has refused. It is believed that Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw are amongst those who have asked Sancho to swallow his pride and say sorry to Ten Hag, according to the Daily Mail. He has also been warned that there will only be one winner if the battle with Ten Hag continues.
The PFA, the union that represents footballers, has been in contact with United and Sancho to try to help the two men settle their differences, although as it stands, there has been no resolution
